Carol Rentschler, Knits 4 Fun!

Knitting has been part of my life since I was 10 years old, thanks to my grandmother’s patient teaching. Years later, after I got married and found myself vacationing with my in-laws in Northern Michigan, the chilly weather drew me back to this cozy craft. We’d spend hours by the fire, knitting together as the wind howled outside. Little did I know, those chilly evenings would spark a passion that became Knits 4 Fun!
At first, I made countless sweaters and vests—so many, in fact, that I wondered if I could ever knit another. That’s when friends suggested I try scarves, and suddenly knitting transformed from a hobby into a joyful business.
What makes Knits 4 Fun scarves and cowls special? They’re designed to be much more than simple winter accessories. Each piece is meant to brighten your outfit and bring a little color and dimension to your day. Let’s face it, winter wardrobes can be a little dull, but a vibrant scarf or a uniquely crafted cowl adds that perfect pop of personality.
When I started selling scarves, I was surprised by how many people weren’t sure how to wear them or what to do with the ends. That inspired me to create the 2-button cowl, a solution for anyone looking for style and simplicity. The 2-button cowl is crafted from soft, high-quality yarns that feel gentle against your skin and provide lasting warmth. To wear it, simply locate the buttons (the longer part goes on the bottom), slip it over your head, and adjust the buttons to the left. Most designs include a subtle twist, so the cowl lays smoothly and frames your face beautifully. And don’t worry about fiddling with the buttons—they’re designed to stay in place, so no need to unfasten them.
The ribbon cowl is another favorite, introduced in 2019. This style uses a lighter, silky yarn with ribbon-like fibers, making it both soft and flexible. It’s perfect for those brisk outdoor walks—snug around the neck for warmth, but easy to pull up over your ears when the wind picks up. The ribbon cowl is a great choice for anyone who wants comfort with a playful twist, and it’s especially handy for layering during unpredictable weather. While the 2-button cowl offers structured style and eye-catching design for work or evenings out, the ribbon cowl is all about cozy versatility for weekends and outdoor adventures.
All Knits 4 Fun! pieces—scarves, cowls, and wraps—are hand-selected for their premium fibers and rich color combinations. I love experimenting with new textures and hues, often sourcing yarns from local boutiques and specialty shops while traveling. Every item is priced according to the quality of the fibers used, so you know you’re getting something truly special.
Over the years, my designs have been recognized at cherished local art shows, including the Hyde Park Square Art Show, the Woman’s Art Club Juried Exhibit, the Milford Art Affair, and the Deerfield Art Show. One of my favorite moments was meeting a customer at Hyde Park who returned year after year, always eager to see what new colors and patterns I’d introduced. The joy of sharing my craft with others, whether through a bold, award-winning cowl or a custom scarf made for a special occasion, is what keeps me inspired.
I hope you’ll enjoy wearing my fiber creations as much as I enjoy making them. Follow Knits 4 Fun on Facebook to see new designs and updates on upcoming art shows.
